If you do not live in the UK, apply at a Hungarian embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
Hungary must be your main destination, by length of stay or purpose. If neither decides it, apply to the country whose external border you cross first.
You can use any of the three VFS centres. The embassy in London decides every application.
Family members of Hungarian citizens follow the normal procedure and pay the full visa fee.

Worth knowing about this consulate
- The embassy charges the visa fee in pounds: £80 for adults and £40 for children aged 6 to 12, valid from 1 January 2026. Children under 6 pay nothing.
- VFS adds a £25 service fee including VAT. You can pay by card (not American Express), and in cash only in London. Fees are not refunded.
- VFS takes walk-ins on working days from 8:30am to 11am at all three centres, but only for family members of Hungarian citizens on family visits. Everyone else books online.
- Hungary's consulates in Manchester and Edinburgh do not issue visas, so files lodged there go to the embassy in London and take three working days to arrive.
- VFS stopped all Hungarian visa submissions, including walk-ins, from 22 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.
- Applications lodged less than 15 days before travel may be returned without a decision.
Notes by passport

Yes. A Schengen visa covers all 29 Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180, as long as Hungary is your main destination.
